Abstract

From the study of the levels of Vitamin A, Beta-carotene, Vitamin E, Vitamins B1and B2 in 197 serum samples of fertile and infertile dairy cows collected from 6 dairy cow raising centers, it is found that there was no significant difference in the levels of Vitamins A, E, and B2 in the serum under study and there should not be any problem about the levels of these vitamins. As for the Vitamins B1 level calculated from the percentage of Thiamine Pyrophosphate Enzyme (TPPE) in problematical groups of dairy cows, it is found deficient in comparison to the normal level reported in humans since there has not been any report of a study of % TPPE in dairy cows. The level of Beta-carotene obtained from this study is questionable. Besides, the level of Beta-carotene differs distinctly in each serum sample including the samples taken from normal dairy cows raised in various regions. The conclusion is that there should be more detailed study on the problems of Vitamin B1 and Beta-carotene in dairy cows.

Abstract

This is a study of the levels of copper and iron in 1,500 serum samples of dairy cows from Nong-Pho Dairy Cow Cooperative Center in Rajburi. The blood samples were collected during August, 1982, to February, 1983, and divided into 5 groups according to age. In each age group of serum samples were also divided according to the duration of gestation. The results the study are that the average levels of copper and iron in the serum samples are between 0.72-1.0 ppm and 3.25-5.05 ppm, respectively. There is no significant statistical differences in the average levels of minerals being studied in dairy cows in the early and late periods of gestation in each age group. Besides, there is no difference in the level of minerals being studied between the normal and the infertile group of cows.

Abstract

Confucianism from China has penetrated into Japan since the fifth century. But it was overshadowed by Buddhism for thousand years. It was then made use of when Ieyasu established the Tokugawa regime. In the Tokugawa period, it is an undisputed fact that Confucianism or Neo-Confucianism was put to use by Tokugawa Ieyasy as a bakufu ideology, though informally. At the same time, we can not deny that Japan’s supreme rulers, from Oda Nobunaga through Tokugawa Iemitsu consciously deployed strategies by mythologizing their personal and their position. Moreover, the Tokugawa ideology was more or less a mixture of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Shinto. Neo-Confucians in Tokugawa period sought to provide the warriors with a clearer class identity than before. Tokugawa learned to organize and manage great masses of people. They were able to transfer skills from the military to the social and political realm. Such enabled the Tokugawa government to Japanize Confucianism and accordingly the Japanese Confucianism was different from the mainland’s original confucianism. In the nineteenth-century, late Edo, the threat came both from within and from without, beyond Japan’s borders. Thus, such situations had given rooms for variety of ideas and practices. When, in the 1890s, the Japanese government needed to stipurlate a set of values to sharpen model citizens through the educational system. During the crisis of the 1930s, nationalism mobilized the Japanese to the highest degree, the state tuned to Yamazaki Ansai’s ideology. After the second World War, the focus of their attention was on Japan’s economic success. And again they had begun to praise the capitalists benefits to be drawn from a maintenance of “feudal” and the military values (the bushido which covered the Confucian, Buddhist, and Shinto values). So far Japanese Confucianism stood for the worldly life and socialization in the Japanese society. It affirms the Japanese to be realistic and pragmatic. Thus, Confucianism has provided favorable atmosphere for the Japanese characteristics to promote the rapid modernization. Without pragmatic and humanistic Confucianism, Japan might still have been a conservative and agrarian country.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to study youths’ attitudes towards religions in general and towards Buddhism in particular. The methods of the study consisted of investigations from secondary and primary sources. The latter sources came in the forms of observing behaviours and distributing questionnaires to 150 undergraduates undertaking their B.A. degree courses in various faculties of Kasetsart University during the first Semester of the academic year 1982-1983. Out of this number, only 121 sets of questionnaires were returned. As a consequence, the population of the study were 121 in number. The statistical methods employed in data analysis were Likert’s scale, chi-square, Yule’s Q and percentage. The Results of the were found as follows: 1) Those students who held positive attitudes towards Buddhism’s compatibility with modernization were not different in number from those who held negative attitudes. 2) The investigation into the concepts of modernization from Tipitaka and various documents in Thai, Pali and English had shown that Buddhism contained substantial principles compatible with modernization in social, economic, political, cultural and personality fields.

Abstract

The disposition of sulfamonomethoxine was studied in Pangasius pangasius following the intravenous, intramuscular and oral drug administration. The drug was administered as 20% solution at the dosage of 200 mg/kg. body weight. Blood samples were collected at specific times via the caudal blood vessels and determined by the Direct and Total method of Bratton and Marshall. Following intravenous administration, the drug was excreted within 108 hours. The maximum plasma concentration reached 32.72 mg % and 28.4 mg % following the intravenous and intramuscular dosing and maintained above 5 mg % for 24 hours. The drug was incompletely absorbed after oral administration. Approximately 70.57% and 16.63% of the given dose were absorbed following intramuscular and oral administration, respectively. The biphasic shape of the plasma disappearance curve suggested that a two compartment model would be used to describe the behavior of the drug in catfish.

Abstract

Since the beginning, Thailand, as an agricultural society had undergone several types of government. Regarding to Thai Buddhism which is the state - religion, most governments, ruled the country by laws of dharms. People were taught to live morallu and ethically. Nevertheless, more and more, we are confronting the fashion of being a modernized or industrial society. Accordingly, the social problems increase so much that we are afraid of losing the nation. In order to avoid the fatal crisis, Buddhism, in this article, is proposed to be the only scientific way of solving the problems while Thai people seem not to be aware of the Buddhist teachings. It should be called applied Buddhism, managed to be the tools to overcome social, political, and economical problems. Those dharms must be used practially, not philosophically since we have been doctrinated by the Buddhist philosophy for a gdreat length of Time.

Abstract

The scope of the research will be confined to the relationship between Buddhism and Japanese culture : the politics, philosophy, society, art and literature, morality, and ethics etc., It will illustrate the evolution of the impact of Buddhism on Japanese society. Since the Japanese are so smart that they can Japanize whatever they are interested. Accordingly, the Japanese Buddhism at present is much different from the former. However, it is undeniable to say that if Buddhism is eliminated from Japan, Japan will be definitely left as a deserted land.

Abstract

This is a study of the amount of calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium in 1,500 samples of dairy cow serum from Nong-Pho Dairy cow Center in Rajburi. The blood samples were collected from August, 2525, to February, 2526, and divided into 5 groups according to age. In each age group the samples were divided according to the duration of gestation. The result of the study is that the amount of calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium in the serum is considered normal with the calcium : phosphorus ratio between 1.64 : 1 to 1.80 : 1. A comparative analysis of the average amount of the minerals being studied in dairy cows in the early and late periods of gestation shows that there is no significant statistical difference in dairy cows in each age group. Besides, there is no difference in the amount of minerals being studied between the normal dairy cows group and the infertile group.

Abstract

This experiment was designed to study the inhibiting effect of chloramphenicol, sulfamonomethoxine, doxycycline and furazolidone on growth of Aeromonas hydrophila in Pla Duk Dan (Clarias batrachus Linn.). It was found that a single intramuscular administration of chloramphenicol and sulfamonomethoxine at concentrations of 50 and 200 milligrams per kilogram of fish body weight, would respectively give very good suppression effect on multiplication of the bacteria. The number of bacteria in blood circulation dropped rapidly when compared between drugs and non-drugs administered groups of fish starting at 1 hour and remained in relative low number for twelve hours after drugs administration. Results from the same experiments also indicated that there was a better effect of sulfamonomethoxine than chloramphenicol on the bacterial growth inhibition. Chloramphenicol and sulfamonomethoxine were both less effective on bacterial growth inhibition when they were given orally using the same doses with the intramuscular route. The better effect, however, would be attained when the second does was given at eight hours after the first administration. Results obtained from oral administration of furazolidone and doxycycline at concentrations of 10 and 40 milligrams per fish body weight respectively indicated the fairly good suppression effect on growth of bacteria though it took longer lag period and shorter inhibiting duration than those of sulfamonomethoxine and chloramphenicol.

Abstract

The disposition of sulfathiazole was studied in catfish (Pangasius pangasius) following the intravenous, intramuscular and oral drug administration. The drug was administered as 15% solution of sulfathiazole at the dosage of 66 mg/kg body weight. The blood samples were collected via the caudal blood vessels. The plasma concentrations of the drug and acetyl metabolite were analysed. Following intravenous administration of sulfathiazole, minimum effective concentrations of the drug were maintained for at least 24 hours. The drug was completely excreted within 96 hours. The drug was completely absorbed following ir~tramusculara dministration but incompletely absorbed following oral dosing. The bioavailability following intramuscular and oral administration were 1C)O% and 17.4%, respectively. The biphasic shape of the plasma disappearance curve suggested that a two compartment model would be used to describe the pharmacokinetic behavior of the drug in catfish.
